Episode 8: It's All About that Gate, 'Bout that Gate, No Paper
The lights-out yard is the vision of a real place, and it will be more ordinary than it sounds. A truck arrives and is recognized before it stops, the load already knows which door it is headed to, and the people supervise the work and step in only as required. While some technical breakthroughs are still required (see a future episode on autonomous trucks), the basics are being built now, one gate at a time, by operators who start where every truck already starts.
In this episode, join Terminal CMO Josh Kivenko and returning guest Ryan Arroyo, SVP of Product and Engineering at Terminal, on why the gate is the most rewarding first move a yard can make. Ryan walks through what happens when a driver pulls into a modern gate: the power unit and cargo asset are read automatically, the driver is confirmed, the shipment is matched to its paperwork, and a clean record is handed to everything downstream. Yard inventory, asset movement, and dock timing all rest on knowing what came through the gate and when. It is a first step that pays for itself, and a site can put it in place today, starting their own journey to lights-out.
